12/5/2023 0 Comments Paradigm shift exampleThe technology is designed to make people more productive without replacing them outright. The solution is to create technology that was of the old paradigm - that makes people more valuable. After all, they certainly can't afford to live in San Francisco on a UBI check. What will they call these UBI recipient living areas? A ghetto? Housing projects? Or a sanctuary district? Who knows. As a result, we will see special places set up for UBI recipients who can't find jobs. Then there's the problem that the UBI will always seem to be not enough to make sure people can afford to live where they currently live. They are pressured to leave and move elsewhere. They tend to get harassed by police for sleeping in cars, or doing things that don't harm others. Silicon Valley types don't want to live with the UBI recipients, so watch how the homeless are treated in Silicon Valley. The homeless are treated pretty badly, so that's what is likely to happen to the UBI recipients. Then there's the problem of the bad message a UBI sends: "You are worthless, so here's some money, now go away." Imagine how people will be treated with that bad message. So ordinary people pay the price, as usual. After all, politicians cannot and will not screw over their cronies. The new paradigm technology corporations are notorious for using tax loopholes and not paying taxes here in the USA, so you know they won't pay more under the UBI scheme. Guess what that will do for economic growth? It will slow it down significantly. So on top of wage and salary stagnation, now workers pay more taxes. And where will the money come from to fund this UBI program? Oh yeah, it will come from taxing the remaining people who have jobs. Then the usual suspects promoting the new paradigm technologies would say "We can have a Universal Basic Income (UBI) which will be given to people so they can survive without a job." That's nice. It will result in more dehumanization of people, more unemployment, more poverty, more suffering, less equality, less diversity, and less progress. Ask Romney Wordsworth what he thinks about that. The result of the new paradigm in technology is that people will be declared obsolete. Meanwhile, the hiring manager whines that they can't find any entry level application developers and says that there is a talent shortage. As a result the applicant is rejected for the role of application developer. So the hiring manager ignores the cover letter which talks about the career change mindset, education and training, and just thinks the applicant wants another job as a truck driver. "This applicant is the best truck driver in his previous company, and is applying for an entry level job as an application developer." says the hiring manager. Then we'll have employers stereotyping older workers as unwilling to learn new things and adjust to new technologies (when they do learn and adjust, they can't get the job!) In addition, many get pigeonholed in their old area. Then they apply for a job and get rejected for not having any experience in the new area. People routinely get new training, get new degrees, get new certifications. The usual suspects promoting the new paradigm technologies, will probably say "Well, displaced employees can learn new things and get jobs in new areas." That's nice, in theory, but in practice, that is not happening. Is anyone getting a discount for bagging their own groceries instead of letting someone else ring it up? Is anyone getting a discount on food for ordering on the Kiosk? Nope. Not put people into poverty and make it impossible for them to survive. Technology is supposed to serve mankind, and make life easier for people, or help employees be more productive. This is technology declaring people obsolete. Thanks to kiosks that take orders at fast food joints, good luck getting that $15/hour now that one is out of work. Self-serve checkout lanes at grocery stores are created with the purpose of people cannot work as a cashier again. The autonomous car is purposely created to make sure people cannot work as a driver again. Now technology is used to purposely make people obsolete. The remaining employees became much more valuable because their productivity went up. Yes, some people lost their jobs, but not everyone did, because we still need people to do data entry, in all job levels. Technologies were developed that reduced the workload of people who were working very hard and enabled them to work smarter.įor example, when technology progressed from manual typewriters, to automatic typewriters to word processors, this made employees more productive. In the past, technology was used to make employees more valuable. We are seeing technologies that are different in type and manner than previous technology - but this is not a change for the better.
